Letīs Put Some Fun In Fundraising

It's nearly time to start fundraising for Chatgames. As most of you know, the only money we need to raise is to cover our server/domain name costs. Everyone here volunteers their time and talent to bring you a varied range of trivia and word games.

In the past we've had shaved heads, sponsored bike rides, guess the baby's weight, buy me as your slave for the day, the world of chatgames in miniature, yummy baked goods, personalized penguin pictures and lots of other fun stuff. We're on the lookout for ideas for this year...what have you got?

Thanks to your purchases via our Amazon link and the World Cup Challenge, we've already got $600 toward our $2800 goal.

Up For Some Fun?

Have you ever been playing a game and found yourself thinking "I could write a quiz as good as (or maybe even betterthan) this one" ?  Would you like the chance to find out if you have what it takes to be a Chatgames host? You'll need a computer running Windows XP or Windows 7, a DSL or cable connection to the internet, a few free hours each week and a sense of humour.

Hosts are free to write about what interests them. You'll never be forced to write about cricket or the latest fashion trends if that's not your thing. You'll be provided with the software needed to write and run games and you'll be fully trained on how to use the programs. Who knows, you may even end up with a tattoo from hostie boot camp!

All we ask is that you commit to running at least two games per week. One needs to be Inquisition and the second can be either Inq or Word Warrior. Hosting is a volunteer position which helps keep Chatgames running as a free-to-play site. If you're interested in joining the hostie ranks talk to any game host or email me at stella@chatgames.com.

Every Penny Counts

It's coming close to that time of year again when Chatgames looks to the generosity of it's Gamers to help keep it running for another year. With no membership fees or charges to play, Chatgames prides itself on being a free site where anyone can come and join in and have fun. But of course behind the scenes there are lots of costs and it's by voluntary donations that all players get to keep having so much enjoyment 365 days of the year.
Previous years fundraising have seen such selfless acts as waxing body parts, drinking a glass of P*psi, and donating their body for a days work. Donations for auction and sale have included hand made cards, hand drawn penguins, pre written questions and of course the yearly Tiara.
This years fundraising has already started with the Chatgames World Cup Clash organised by addax, with players donating $1 for every goal their randomly selected team scores, but there is still lots to do and this is where you can help.
Do you have something you would like to donate to the Auction? It could be something game related like questions or a quiz book, or it might be something Chatgames related like a Penguin tea pot! How about something you would like to do, with Chatgamers sponsoring you? Like sitting in a bath of custard whilst playing Chatgames, or playing Word Warrior blind for a penny a point.
Put your thinking caps on and see what suggestions you can come up with to help put the Fun in this years Fundraising!

How much do you know about Derek?

Have you ever sat in a Live Quiz and seen a question that has been asked before? Or a topic that has been around in lots of different games?
Ask any host and they will tell you that it is no simple job keeping your games fresh and new, with original and interesting questions and trivia to feed to the ever hungry players.
Often, Hosts will ask players for suggestions for categories they would like to see featured in future games, and suggestions come thick and fast. Subjects like Horror Films, The Olympics, Space , and country specific questions for our diverse population.
Of course there are always some more obscure topics that get nominated and some of the more unusual suggestions that have made it into a Live Quiz game include Andorra, Beetroot, people called Derek, Cranberries, Staples and Pants (or Knickers as you may call them!).
So if you have a topic which you think is not getting enough quiz time make sure you speak to a Host and put forward your idea. A good host will always welcome your suggestions, as it not only gives them the opportunity to run some new and different slugs, but it can be very interesting researching and compiling the questions. Players also enjoy the chance to learn new and interesting snippets of trivia they can amaze their friends with!
As one host once said, "There are only so many questions in the world !" so never be afraid to suggest a topic you would like to see in an Inquisition in the near future!

Qats handy to know!

When flexing your fingers playing Word Warrior you can often be faced with a rack of  letters that look totally impossible unless you happen to be playing in Welsh. So it can help to have at hand a list of  words that will score you points whilst getting rid of some of the more difficult letters. For instance did you know that you can spell fizz with only one z?
Faced with a rack with no vowels you may be lucky and have wry or fry but did you know that cwm, syn, gyp and hyp are all valid words too? If you have a X to get rid of then Pyx and Xis are very handy words to know.
And of course there is the dreaded Q - what happens if you don't have a U sitting there too? Well actually there are several words which have a Q but don't require the U, such as Qat and  Qaid, Qoph, Qadi and Qanat. And if your really lucky, letters on the rack allowing, you may find inspiration literally at your fingertips, as Qwerty is also a valid word!
So next time your brain freezes as you stare at your tiles and wish you had some better letters, remember there is pretty much always a word to be found if you look closely enough!
